Sex, Consent, & Gender — Writing a New Narrative
Even before #MeToo, Dr. Jenn Gunsaullus was talking about the crisis of consent in our country, and asking how we can shift our social norms around sex, communication, and gender roles socialization. In this storytelling video, Dr. Jenn shares a personal story about an experience with a man who violated their agreed upon sex boundaries. Although this wasn't easy for her to work on or share publicly, this topic is so misunderstood that she knew we desperately need to be talking about sexual communication and consent in a new way.
The Impact of Sexual Shame — TEDx Talk, Phoenixville, PA
While sex is a natural act, many societies shame sexuality, particularly female sexuality, which serves to control women's bodies and mind. What can we do about this in the U.S. and how does this negatively impact us, our relationships, and society?
Dr. Jenn begins this talk with a personal story of sexual shame and then takes a walk around the globe with examples of female sexual shame. Then she brings the conversation to the U.S. and each of us personally. We all have a personal responsibility to do something different for others…and ourselves.
Sex: Mind full or Mindful? — TEDxWomen Talk, San Diego, CA
"We don't talk about the complexity of sexuality. What happens when we don't talk about it is that sexuality ends up in the shadows, and that is where we have shame, embarrassment, exploitation, abuse, and fear." ~Jennifer Gunsaullus, PhD
Growing up as a girl in American society means that you likely learned a lot of negative and shameful messages about your body and sex, and received poor sex education. In this TEDx Talk, Dr. Jenn discusses the state of affairs around female sexuality in the U.S. and how applying simple mindfulness skills can help create a new and empowering path forward.
And one more…that is a bit less serious than the topics above…
Diddle Diddle Little Clit (wait for it…)
For National Masturbation Month in 2020 (May has been deemed “National Masturbation Month” since the 1990s), I created this little ditty.
This is an ode to personal sexual pleasure and when a female finds and appreciates her clitoris for the first time (wait for it...)! AND...this is what you get after Dr. Jenn spends 10 weeks of sheltering-in-place alone during COVID-19, with only 7 weeks of ever playing the ukulele!
Educational side note: While in this video my head is the clitoris, that is actually just the clitoral glans, or the head of the clitoris, which has the most nerve endings. However, there is a whole clitoral complex under the surface of the vulva, with erectile tissues that engorge when we're turned on. :)
