This is a personal topic for me and many of us. The media and advertising pretty much set us to be at war with our bodies. What are your experiences here? Did Session #73 resonate with you?
Ok, I don’t really love by body (bady bady bady) overall, and there are things I wish I could change, but I’d have a really hard time giving up the red wine and chocolate, so screw that.
But I like some assets – maybe even love them: full lips, naturally curly hair which I’ve finally stopped fighting, perfect sized breasts, long legs, and I even went from hating my toes and never wearing open toed sandals to giving myself pedicures and keeping them looking pretty for my yoga classes. I now have pretty toes!
I’ve also found that my yoga practice forces me to see where my body is and what it really looks like every day, and prevents me from hiding it under baggy sweats and t-shirts. I have to gaze at it for 90 minutes in the mirror, see its limitations, but also see my strengths, and my wicked backbend. And then I wonder who decided that cellulite was unattractive? Maybe someday I’ll find that pretty, just like my toes.
